Well I meet the little sulfur crested cockatoo yesterday she is about 15 yrs of age. Assuming she based on eye color only she's never been DNA'ed nor laid an egg (same as Lacey). Anyhoot sweet pretty thing in good feather the owner is actually (that she knows of) the second person to have her. A friend of hers had her and an M2 and two yrs ago fell ill and told her "your the only person I trust to take care of them" so she felt she couldn't tell her no and took them in. Well this owner is dealing with the flood and has had to be moved 3 times now, she said the bird is screaming when she leaves the room and she feels its best she go to a home where she will be stable instead of moving every week or so not knowing where they will be a month from now or when her job will start up again. Oddly she kept the M2 (humm) said she just wasn't ready to get rid of them both at the same time it would be to hard. She wanted to be a part of the adoption (like the lady I dealt w was) but the rescue felt that after the ordeal that occurred when I took in Lacey it was best she not be. The bird sweet, she laughs when we laugh, she coughs then laughs, she says Hi and thats about it so far that I personally know of. Her diet so much better then Lacey's she eats all human food but the expected zupreem fruit.

She has what I can best describe as "razor" or "barbed"(?) feathers which I would hope after a few molts she can replace with lovely feathering? I had never seen such a sweet face on a bird though knowing Lacey and how she can go from angel w a set of wings to a devil in disguise I did not let my guard down. She doesn't step up readily (remind you of Lacey yet) but is instead stick trained to come down off of her cage. I was given first opp to take this little girl in. I told them after holding her and playing with her for almost an hr that I'd have to talk to Brent seeing as it wasn't just a new pair of jeans or new Nike's it is a living being one he will have to care for should something happen to me. One that will feed off the energy of the house like Lacey does and one that will when miss thing gets going join in the "fun"

He was on the road up in Minot, the rescue had to get back to Fargo for a meeting. They put her back in the carrier said to let them know. I called up Brent who is very much against me getting another bird. I told him I had met her, what her disposition was like while she was here and a little about her history. How she was dumped on this lady, they live in a small trailer with an M2, how they have been displaced by the flood and moved numerous times, how the lady has lost her job and wants to find something stable for the bird all of it. He asked what I thought. I told him "We have talked about this many times the only other 2 birds I would want is a citron or a leadbetters". Well in 9 yrs the rescue has only ever had 2 citrons come in and no leadbetters. When I contacted breeders (yes I have gone and will if I feel the deep desire to have a bird join my home will again use a responsible breeder I'm not against it) that all citron babies are generally spoken for as soon as they are hatched and deposits are taken. He then told me the dreaded words of "whatever you want baby" those words I hate because I'll be honest if he ever wanted another snake there would be a fight in this house and he'd find out what a southern buttwhoopin was really like!

I called up the rescue and let them know. That Brent's exact words were "when can we get this bird, we dont want her going home to home before she finds stability how soon can you have her ready for us to pick up" well sadly they are having some issues with flooding. The flooding is preventing them from accessing their sister organization in Minn where the cages are kept and so forth. Brent also said to tell them "Have her ready as soon as tomorrow and dont send her with no piece of crap cage" She laughed and said she'd do the best she could and would try to have her ready to come home today.

Now yes I realize I JUST officially adopted a U2. Who they raved about yesterday and guess what last night with our company here she willingly even stepped to them (total strangers) and gave my friend a kiss! Not bad for a bird who wouldn't even eat with the lights on when I first got her huh!! I will take her in, love her, and work with her as I did Lacey. And if during our trial period (which if all goes will I will ask for 60 days instead of the usual 30 like I did with Lacey) to see how things go. If its to loud in here for any member of the family (and that includes my son and Junebug) or if she shows signs that she may not fit in as well as Lacey did then we will sadly have to return her so that she can find the proper living situation.

Her name is Cricket, she is a 15 yr old Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo and she will soon be joining our home. This is a photo of her taken by the lady who had to sadly give her up.. Don't mind the date she wasn't sure how to set it  correctly. She will be coming with nothing other then a list of her favorite food items, "special stick" and I am hoping at least one toy she is familiar with(she is prettier in person I'll take new photos when she joins us) We are just waiting on the call from the rescue to tell us to get in our car drive the 120 miles that she is ready w cage to come here.

Wow!  Good luck with her.  She deserves a good home, like the one you can give her.  Hopefully she fits in well.  Lacey might take a few steps back, so be prepared.  She does have a sweet looking face doesn't she.  Who knew, a puppy dog look, on a BIRD!

Yes I am prepaired for Lacey to more then likely regress. If you recall she came from a home with 2 other cockatoos, an amazon, 2 cockatiels and I think it was 3 parakeets. As well as 2 mixed breed small dogs. Lacey developed her issues as all the other birds were brought in. Here she is okay not sure if its the amount of spacing we have between the birds or the fact they arent loud and obnoxious like the ones her previous owner had. I am wondering more if is the fact they were basically in a small 1970s singlewide trailer where they were so close to one another.. But Ive also heard some cockatoos get jealous of other too's no matter the type of too. If thats the case I will not stress out any of my birds or try my hardest not to in bringing this new one in. And it will if I keep her be my LAST unless we move.. But I really think 3 large birds 1 small bird, 2 dogs, 1 toddler, 2 snakes and 3 horses are enough to keep me busy I doubt I'd have more time in a day to spend one on one w the birds if I added more then the one I am considering. I'd hate NOT to be able to cuddle them each everyday. Would be like having so many kids you cant give one on one attention to them.

Cricket does have a cute little puppy dog face. What a sweetheart.  :) Congrats and hope it all goes very smooth with the transition.

“My brother and sister birds, you should praise your Creator and always love him: He gave you feathers for clothes, wings to fly and all other things that you need. It is God who made you noble among all creatures, making your home in thin, pure air. Without sowing or reaping, you receive God’s guidance and protection.”
