~~Mommy Meets Kachina Raye Skybird~~

Yesterday I got to go to Kachina's baby home and visit with him. It's about 150 miles from me and I spent 2 1/2 hrs there!  Of course he considers me a stranger and wouldn't come to me. I didn't expect him to since I already know how Fabie birds & new arrivals act when first meeting the "Stranger" that will be their new Mommy.  I did get to scratch the back of his head while Wendy held him with his back turned toward me. As long as he couldn't see me he was OK with it. 

The lady in these photos is his breeder Wendy. She said it shouldn't be long til he is ready to come home. She has taken him off the baby formula except when he needs a little for comfort before bedtime. I thinking maybe another couple of weeks or around the 1st of next month. He will be 6 months old on the 30th of this month. Wendy is a very nice person and talks a blue streak in person, but rarely writes a single comment in the emails containing the occasional photos I've gotten from her.

Despite his lack of toes he can climb, walk & hold toys to chew very well.  Gorgeous widdle cuddly face!!

I know how excited you were with going to visit Kachina for the first time! He is just so beautiful. He really does have the sweetest little face EVER  I can't believe just how well he is perching!

Thanks Wendy!  Yes I was ecstatic to get to go visit Kachina Raye!! I had asked his breeder Wendy back in August I think if I could come visit and she never got back to me about either week I gave her I could come. I decided to give it one more shot since I am off for my vacation. I was beside myself when she actually answered telling me any day except Wednesday.

How exciting De'Andrea! I am so glad that you were finally able to visit Kachina! He is so adorable and has the cutest little face. You must be so excited to know that he will be coming home real soon!

Thanks Terri!  Kachina is very attached to his breeder Wendy right now. I figure it will take a good bit of time before he forgets her and begins to bond to me. I'm OK with however long he needs to let go of that bond. 

It took Angel over a yr of being with me for him to let go of his strong bond he had with his breeder Vicki. The "Special Ones" just seem to get really attached to their breeder/Mom's due to the need for extra comfort and security.   

They are a little smaller than the Blue & Golds that they look similar to. At one time they were considered a subspecies of the B&G. Upon further studying of them they were found to be a completely different species of their own.

Thanks Maddy!  I only wished I had been going there to bring him home. But I did enjoy getting to see him & all the other Fabies. Plus she showed me her pet birds outside in her huge aviaries.
