I had a bird lose an entire toenail to a rope perch. This has made me more than a little wary of them.... Has anyone else every had any issues with them?

I would be a bloody mess if I tried to take Lola's boing away! She loves to do an inverted bungee jump where she flaps her wings vigorously while hanging upside down from it and when its stretched enough, she stops flapping. She does this several times a day

That said, it is every owner's responsibility to check the toys and accessories in and around cages and play areas frequently for unsafe conditions

I've never had a problem with Peatree's rope perch. I frequently check it for loose threads so that no toes get stuck.

LOL, George, I would be in exactly the same situation as you if I EVER tried to take Codie's boing away. I have never had any issues with him getting hurt! I, like you check them constantly and if I see any wear then I take it away and buy a new one

Maybe when I move into my own place I'll get boing and see how my fids like it....
Granted it was a long time ago with the incident...

I don't have any boings for mine. I do have hanging ropes for my macaws to play on. Roscoe loves to climb all over his ropes & hang upside down from them.
I have read on other bird forums in the past about some owners having troubles with ropes causing toe loss, especially if the rope has frayed a bit at the cut ends. Some were adamantly against ever using ropes again. I can certainly understand the fear of toe loss happening if one should get tangled and no one was home to save them.
Like George said, we all have to be ever so watchful with all the toys we add to our feathered kids homes. And inspect them often. And we all know how fast our kids can find a way to get themselves into trouble even when we have done our best to protect them.
