How much weight? If it's over 10% take her back in. In the meantime, offer high fat foods like nuts, and yes, even sunflower seeds right now. oatmeal with chopped walnuts might work. Is she eating at all on her own? Offer supplemental heat so she is expending less energy to maintain body temperature

the most common side effects I can find for the azithromycin are nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Any indication of these? any one of them could result in lethargy

Very sorry to hear this.
Keep her eating, whatever she will eat. Do you have any critical care formula? I use Lafeber's Emeraid Omnivore.
Thanks for letting us know about what you use for critical care, Audrey. I have looked at all the supplement type things on bird sites wondering which ones would be best to have on hand for emergencies and general need now times. There are so many of them and some are for multiple uses. I will check into getting some for that, just in case moment I may face one day.

Oh no, Terri. I just read this. I am so sorry! Thank goodness you caught it and got her to Cornell. How is Harlow feeling today? Poor baby and poor Mommy. Sending you both lots of good and healthy thoughts!

My vet, Dr. Orosz, developed it when she was at the University of Tennessee. Very high in amino acids and other quality nutrients. Merlin eats it twice a day due to her liver cirrhosis. I put her meds in the syringes with it. Always good to have on hand as you can keep your bird alive until you can get to the vet. Pete couldn't eat for 10 days recently due to artheriosclerosis and he wouldn't be here now if it weren't for this and sub q fluids.

Seriously, weigh her, if she has lost 10% or more in weight TAKE HER BACK IN! They perk up at night because that is when they roost in the wild, they roost in groups & other birds will attack a bird that shows sign of illness forcing it out on it's own, unprotected, it's a natural thing she is doing.

Spoke with Cornell today. Her medical test for iron and zinc came back negative. Still waiting on the other tests. They are changing her medicine to Doxycycline[hoping she perks up with that. ) What shes on now they said isn't strong enough for what she probably has.

Waiting for the new medicine in the mail still. Its funny how you think everything a vet says is right. Mines not a bird owner and Im sure he knows a lot. But Im seeing what Grey and Sondra said to be right{ we live with these guys} Today after she had her medicine she was tired and hanging out on her lower perch . Later she really perked up , Dave and Julia took her in with them and had lunch . She was doing her calls and begging for me when I came home [good sign]. She really wanted to eat at dinner for the first time . Good to finally see her a little better. Still puffed up though and not her normal strength , but at least were going forward.
