We spend the night in Shreveport at a hotel, get up at 4:30 in the morning, drive to the airport, and they cancelled his flight.  :cry1: Tried to make it for tomorrow, but the temp where he's landing will be too high. Looks like another trip to Shreveport Thursday if all goes well. This time, we're getting up at 3, leaving the house at 3:30 to 4, then hopefully getting to the airport by 6. We made it home in 2 hours this morning and we had farther to go. Wish us luck for Thursday!

Awww, sorry to hear it was canceled. I said in summer this happens quite often and it is all based on a number of dogs dying in holding during hot weather a few years ago. Short nosed breeds of dogs are not even shipped anymore except between the fall to winter season. I know birds are not dogs, but they really are taking care of the chance of death and it has to be optimal temps at both ends of the flight for the duration of the flight, not just at boarding times. You may have to wait til the summer is over and II'mnot trying to rrain on your parade, just getting you prepared for the possibility.  hugu

The carrier looks great and at least he is getting some crate & travel training out of it. That should make for less stress when he takes that long flight to his mpnew Mommy. I k ow Terri is so sad not to get to have him home already. sadboy3

No, they cancelled the whole flight. Not just us. There were people there who were furious! One lady told them that it was impossible for her to be on the 6:15 pm flight that they had to reopen the morning flight. They kept trying to tell her it was a computer problem and the plane could not take off. She just would not understand.

We're trying for Thursday. Temp here will be in the 70's at take off, temps in Chicago in the 70's when he lands there, and in New York temps will be in the 70's when he lands there. So it's looking good for Thursday. We will keep watching the temps though.

have you thought about putting a cold pak in the bottom of his cage? Or even duct-taping one to the outside bottom? It might help keep him cool.

Yes, we are all back home just waiting for another try at this. He didn't like being put in the carrier but handled the trip very well. He was happy to be back here last night. You should have seen my hair after I washed it. Took at least 30 minutes to get the tangles out. lol
