We went and picked up Caboose today. Poor little guy is a plucker. He even has a collar on which he hates. He keeps digging his toes under it like his skin itches. He makes the cutest sounds! His beak and nails need trimming. Once we got his cage into place I set him on top of it and went to get him some water and pellets. When I got back he was gone! Little joker climbed down (had to have climbed because his wing feathers are in poor shape) and had made his way about half way across my living room floor. I didn't see him down there so I started panicking. lol. Jerry calmly said "behind you". And there he was. He stepped up nicely from the floor. I put him in his cage and let him settle some. I tried to get him to step up from inside his cage and it was a no go. He didn't so much as move to bite me, he just wouldn't look at me. lol. I'm letting him have his space.

Anyway, I promised pictures for his new mom, Terri and here they are!

What a handsome little guy!!  That collar looks uncomfortable.  But I know nothing about plucking or prevention techniques.

Welcome Caboose!!!

He came with a bag of Zupreem. I've had him since around 1 and it's 4 now but I haven't seen him eat or drink yet. When I put him in his cage I put him on a swing and he hasn't moved off of it yet. He's moved around it, but not off of it yet. I may cover him early tonight so that he feels more comfortable and secure. I think I will take the collar off him tonight though. He just looks so uncomfortable. And toys! He needs more toys! Think I should wait until tomorrow or when he settles in a bit before I give him more toys?

Oh, and his treat of choice is almonds. Shelled almonds. She sent some sliced almonds, but that didn't seem good so I gave him a whole almond. That is the only thing he has eaten since I got him.

I think I will make some birdie bread tomorrow and see if he will eat some of that.

Aww, Caboose is a real cutie!! Terri you will have him in tip top shape in no time at all. Ok, it may take a few months for the feathers to grow out, but he will be so happy with you and your knowledge of how to help him overcome his reason for plucking.
