Oh George I am so sorry to hear you will have to rehome Scarlet. I do hope you find a suitable home for her. Geez if I didn't already have parrots I'd take her in. I do have a soft spot for the not so perfect ones out there. But of course I have a houseful of fiddies.  That socks that Scarlet has to suffer more bad luck & health. :(

I know, I hate the thought that I am giving up on her, but I'm holding out until the ideal situation comes up for her. In the meantime we will continue on

We still have Scarlet with us. We think we have found an ideal home for her in Virginia. Birds of Paradise Sanctuary really helped make the match. They were very selective on who they would present as a candidate for her, needless to say we have become very protective of Miss Scarlet. We spent almost 2 hours on the phone interviewing her and just talking. She will be going to a woman in Fairfax County, VA who happens to be a veterinarian and has 2 other macaws with handicaps that also have the Herpes III virus. The adopter just started construction on a new house and asked us if we could hold onto her until the house was ready and we agreed. Its such a relief that we know she will be going to a place where she will have all she needs and wants.

Oh George, this must be a relief to both you and Doug to have found someone who can take care of her as you do. It also must be heartbreaking at the same time.   hugu

Today I met Scarlet's new mom in Daytona Beach and handed her over. It was a very emotional experience, but after a little hesitation, Scarlet let go of me and went over to Kim. The stopped for the night in Jacksonville, and Kim sent me a video of her and Scarlet. Scarlet was letting her scratch her head and ears and was closing her eyes enjoying the contact. Later in the video, Scarlet does some contented beak grinding before stretching out and falling asleep. Because of her leg, she prefers to lay flat on her tummy with her legs retracted and the wings slightly spread for balance. My little girl is gone  :cry1: cry :cry1:

I've just read all about your journey with scarlet, she is so lucky to have been found and gotten out of that horrible situation. Youve done wonders for her grey and helped her gain the strength for a new start in life  hugu

I'm sure kim will keep in touch with plenty of updates of scarlet. What a fantastic story with a wonderful ending
