OK, even tho' once it gets here I will no longer get to come over here & proudly post pics of my future fiddie, I still wanted to share my excitement in it.
I finally found a breeder in Texas who still breeds & sells Green Wing Macaws.
I have wanted one since the early 90s when I can remember seeing my first picture of a GW.
This lady, her name is Helga (Yep, she's German) lives in Mission, TX. which is a loooong way from me, but we will deal with that when the time comes. :deer:
As I figured she does not have any babies left from this years hatching, but she is putting me on her waiting list for one next year.
That works out perfectly for me, I will have plenty of time to scrape up the price. And I have to tear out the utility closet in the corner of the living room opposite side of where Roscoe & Angel's aviary sits.
I was already planning to tear that closet out & putting another aviary in its spot to just be ready if I ever found my Green Wing. :twirl: Once I get my building added to the front of the house that I will move my bedroom in, I plan on tearing out the wall between my now bedroom & where Roscoe & Angel's aviary sits. I will then move their aviary into that room along with Leyla Belle's cage to free up the front area where it was for all the play perches & other fiddie stuff.
It sounds like I am devoting a lot of my living room to the fiddies,
but I never used that front area for much anyway.
My house is really small, but I still basically use the back half for living in & it is all one big room. My computer & table sits behind my sofa (the dogs' sofa to be exact) & looks directly at my big screen t.v. & all this is just a few steps away from my kitchen. So, what more could I ask for in creature comfort?!!
Anyway, it will probably be around this time next year before I get to bring my baby GW home
or maybe even longer depending when it is big enough for me to take over feeding. I could take it at 6 wks., but I am not comfortable with that tiny a baby & hand feeding.
I will opt for around 5 months like Roscoe if I can.
That is a good age to continue feedings.
