Hi again, Romeo sounds like he is fitting in really well.  handshappy When they are happy and feel secure they do adjust quickly and green cheeks are very loving little darlings. hugu

I have included a couple of pics of my pineapple green cheek Peta. Like I said before, I am no expert at knowing the difference between the colors, especially when some are so similar. I thought you might can look at your Romeo and tell is he looks more cinnamon or more like Peta.  :twirl:

I got my Peta in April, she was already 5 yrs. old. Her previous owner had to take on more work & didn't have time for her. She came to me when I went to see her for the first time & she was nuzzling on my neck & shoulder the first night home with me. Peta is a very assertive little girl and she thinks she can whip my macaws. When Roscoe ,my Catalina macaw is out on his perch & Peta is on her cage, she will fly over to Roscoe & try to pick a fight with him. oh She is fearless and thinks she can go anywhere I go. stupid1

Maybe these pics can help you decide if Romeo is a cinnamon or pineapple. I don't have a pic of a cinnamon since I don't own one.

Got the results today from Avian Biotech International.

It's a girl.  Romeo is a Juliet.

Haven't decided whether to change the name?  It might be more appropriate though?

Any thoughts ....Romeo or Juliet?

Leave the name. Most people only change a name when a bird has been abused or if the name isn't known.

Romeo has known her name since you bought her and she is loved. You could call her Romeoa which isn't a huge change and something she would still recognize without causing her stress. Think of a young child who knows his/her name who come to live with you and you decide to change their name - cause all kinds of stress.

Our Powder was abused when he was given to us, we didn't know it then so we didn't change his name. When we found out much later and by then it was too late to change his name. The thinking is, new home, new love, new name, I don't agree, because as I said, I think it causes too much stress in a bird that already answers to a name unless it's a slight change. Each of our birds have nick-names and will call themselves their given name with their nickname added to it - an example is our Higgy, he'll call himself Higgy Butt Bones, or Higgy Boo. Powder calls himself Pow-Pow, or Boo-Boo Boy which are his nick-names.

she is a beauty for sure.  if you want to change her name, change it. :0 )   she is young yet, you are both still new to each other, it will not matter now, it will later.. just use the new name with the old one for a while so she associates it with a "name" you are calling her, then drop the old name.  parrots get a "feeling" when you use the name.  it is subconscious.  if you have a name that you don't like and use it, they will pick up the 'don't like' feeling.  you will attach the feeling to the word whether you mean to or not.. which is why negative names for parrots like "killer" or "jaws" are not a good idea.  that being said, if you don't want to change it don't.  I know perfectly happy girls named "Gus" and "Joe" etc.  she is still very very young, so you have a little window to work within.

I am glad you got her DNA'd.  it is a very helpful tool in knowing why they do certain behaviors.

she will likely bond very close to you, since you have already started a great process of positive reinforcement.  I am so happy for her!! you could always get creative...Romyet? or a female name that is similar to Romeo? I have always thought that Juliet is a beautiful name.  or you could go Julia?

I've been working from home pretty much every day for the last 2 weeks.  Today I had to go to the office so this morning after we had breakfast I put her in the cage at 6:30 am and went to work.

When I got home  around 6pm as soon as I walked into the living room and before I could get her out of the cage she said "Romeo".  She was so excited to see me.

How can I change the name now?  It's the first word I have taught her to say and it's her identity.

I'm going to keep the name Romeo.  So she's a girl, who cares?
