OK, took the juvenile Red Tail hawk to a rehabber and after getting lost I am finally home.
It seems that West Nile virus is most likely the problem, the virus has taken a heavy toll on raptors this year. Mrs. Cussworth stated she has taken in more raptors this year than in any other year she has been rehabbing and West Nile is the cause. She said I brought her a very young female who was dehydrated and hadn't eaten in a couple of days. She will give her fluids and offer food and see what happens. It will eithe thrive or need supportive care until it dies. The good news is the bird still had some sort of fly on it. These flys live on these birds as long as they are healthy, if they are near death they leave the bird. She said they travel from bird to bird when the birds flap their wings vigorously, which the bird did and of course I got a fly down my shirt and she got one in her hair. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Thankfully they don't like people and it left quickly.
I'll call in a couple of days to see how this little girl is.

The hawk died. It was West Nile. She said to expect to see more of this as they are migrating now. I'm keeping her name, number and driving instructions handy anyway.

This lady also has parrots turned into her. She just adopted out a Cockatoo. She had a Saint Thomas Conure turned over to her, unbanded of course. This little guy/gal has tightly bonded with a Sunday Conure, they are so cute together! She has them in a HUGE cage, one I'd LOVE to have for Powder. If it wasn't for the fact that two were so tightly bonded I would have adopted him on the spot.

Ok gonna try again to reply to this thread, it keeps bringing to a non-responsive page. Maybe I have a virus?? Anyway that is neat you found her and sad that she died but as said at least it was probably more comfy there then where she was. Never knew that bout the flies, that is wierd but neat info. West Nile huh, wow.
