Today I have commited to adopt two birds, Lucy (Black Headed Caique) and Crush (Sun Conure). They are being rehomed because their owner is in hospice care. They will stay with her until the end then come to me. I am sad because their owner is only 26, I have known her for some time now. I guess having her fids will let me keep a part of her with me. It might get confusing around here since I already have a 'zon named Lucy. Doug isn't particularly happy about more birds, but he knows enough not to fight me on this plus the fact that I am the one that takes care of the animals, the house, etc.

i'm really sorry to hear that they even need a new home. i can only imagine how hard it is to face mortality at 26. then the fear of the unknown that faces your beloved angels added... pure torture, i'm sure. i'm glad that they have a good home where they'll be properly cared for rather than end up another listing on craigslist. btw, as a caique mom, let me warn ya, get your rollerskates oiled, do you crunches, and start building your stamina NOW. you're gonna need it.

Prayers for your friend. Thank you for taking these babies in. I'm sure you taking them for her has eased her mind quite a bit. They are beautiful! Tell Doug "thank- you" for me and give him a big hug. I'm thankful he's being understanding.

Mikey...you are not dumb...dummy! Hospice is a type of care...end stage care. They deal with keeping you comfortable and giving you dignity...for terminally ill people. At one time they didn't allow anything to "sustain" life, no heroic measures but things have changed as I have had patients on hospice and still coming to dialysis. (dialysis is a means to keep you alive) They will do 24 vigils with people so they are never alone....it's all about comfort and dignity. They are also there for family support as well.

Grey, you are my hero taking the darlings in and wanting to help your friend. I am truly sorry she cannot live a long life & get to enjoy her beloved fiddies. I too EriNes11 fear not knowing what will become of my fiddies & all my other critters when I am gone. My son & his wife do not want any of them (they have cats! The only animal she likes). And if I go first, hubby has no clue how to even feed the dogs! He is just beginning to try to interact with Roscoe, but has no clue what he's doing or what the fiddies eat. Grey, tell Doug he'll never notice a couple more birds...yeah right...who am I trying to kid... They are beautiful and they will be an awesome addition to your flock.

George, I'm sorry you friend has passed. Even knowing that the passing is coming it still hurts. I am so glad her passing was peaceful, it helps those left behind this way. Crush and Lucy were stepping-stones in Courtney's life, maybe you are meant to be their pillar in life. Courtney will guide you and look in on her birds, as well as you, from time to time.
