So today I went to the Ammerman's yard sale. No, not your typical clean out the closet yard sale. This is held twice a year in Plant City AND its all to do with exotic pets. There were goats, pigs, peafowl, pheasants 20 bajillion varieties of chicken, duck, and goose. There were marmosets and sugar gliders. There were large exotic mammals (purchase of which was STRICTLY limited) I got to bottle feed a tiger cub! he was just the cutest little sugar booger, I sand "daddy's little baby likes shortening, shortening" while he sucked on his baba. But I digress. There were supplies galore, AND BIRDS! Any type of hookbill or softbill you could imagine. I was in HEAVEN. All were well kept, clean water etc.and all looked extremely healthy. The sellers were asking prospective buyers about their experience, TELLING all the prospects the fine print (care, life span, behavioral, emotional, diet etc.) I spoke to one seller about it, he said that if the Ammermans think someone's birds are subpar, or don't like the information they are giving about the birds, they are booted out and not asked to return. And thank goodness I didn't have too much cash on me or my credit cards. There were sooooooo many birds you rarely see anymore (Duyvenbode's lorikeet $500 pr drool, Chattering Lories $450 pr, MELANISTIC Stella's Lorikeet $700 pr droolon2, Red Front Kakarikis $100 jawdrop, only a few 'zons and toos, lots of parrotlets, and surprisingly lots of rosellas happy) If I would have had my credit card, I would be divorced right now.

I bought 75 feet of clean manzanita (asst lengths and diameters) for $30
1 travel cage for Lola $20
An outdoor cage for Lola $25
A grocery bag full (brown paper) of assorted toys $20
1 chili dog and a coke $3.00

The next one is the Sunday after Thanksgiving, I'm definitely going back

It does seem more sellers are caring more and being more informative to potential buyers.  This is an improvement  thumb

I know where Plant City is, rather I have been to & through there. Hubby had to go to Florida quite a few times during his trucking days.  :twirl:
His company (FFE) had a terminal in Dundee/Winter Haven.  happyjack

I'd love to go to a bird fair or yard sale. They have one in Arlington several times a year here & I was going to the one in May, but the p.u. & new air conditioner took my mad money I had saving for a new fiddie.  cwy

Good thing I didn't go cause I was going to look for a green wing macaw, my dream bird & I don't have a spot for another aviary just yet. hmm Not that I couldn't rearrange things & toss a few more furniture items I don't really need outside in the yard to fit one in if I find one... smile3 lol

One thing that amazed me was that even though their signs were horribly misspelled, they could go on and on about the mechanics of genetics in breeding for specific mutations and had a thorough understanding of it. Now I am not elitist by any means, but this caught me off guard. Right up to the point that I went into the small produce stand with the sign with an arrow marked "Enner" and another sign that said "Watermelons $2.00 each or 2 for $5.00" (thanks I'll take 2 but ring them up at the $2.00 price). Cantelopes (too young to elope?), Oprah 30 sense a pound ( too much to go on here....must resist...) and many so many more that I just had to laugh (I think I even snorted a couple of times). Then there was the little boy in the pet supply booth holding a bully stick and chewing on it : his father said "How much for the Jerky?" The vendor replied "Son, That's a barbecued bull pecker" Daddy yanked that thing away so fast I thought the kid would have whiplash

LOL!! OMG!!! OpraH!!!  laffhrd  omg we need more of you!!!! holy cheese I laughed so hard

it is not elitist, but once you go educated it is hard to go back.  you just notice and snort and giggle; elitists would be snarky and loud.

the bully stick, I was reading that and HAD to reread it (did I read that right? did the kid really start chewing on a bull pizzle?) and sure enough..  dmblaf

thank you for your "observations!"

laugh laffhrd  omg   you're killin me here  laugh laffhrd

it must be a florida thing. i had an argument with a customer once cause we were 'cheating her' when her candybars that were marked 3/$2 rung up at 2/$1. it took me 10 mins to explain to her that she was getting a better deal. at the end she looks at me confused and asks "so does that mean i need to get one more to get the better deal?"   slaph  thinking bout my profit sharing  i say 'uh yeah, one more  smile3 '   devilwink
