From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Texas hot is a regional specialty in Western New York and parts of Pennsylvania. This Buffalo regional favorite consists of hot dogs smothered in a spicy meat sauce with mustard and chopped onion. This creation was initially popularized by Seneca Texas Hots of Buffalo, New York. Seneca Texas hots has packaged a package of spices for home use. This version of a Texas hot is available at most Greek diners in Western New York State.

Texas Hot/Slime Dog sauce. Been trying to get a recipe for this and around Buffalo you just cant. It's like guarding a part of the bible for crying out loud. But, did much research over the last few months and came up with my own and I will say it is GOOD, and damned close to all the others. Browned ground beef drained and set aside. chicken stock, tomato sauce, olive oil, red wine vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, grnd cloves, grnd allspice, black pepper, cumin, oregano, cinnamon, salt, paprika, chili powder, cayenne and grnd mustard. Served on a steamed bun with diced silver onions and mustard.  With the meat on the side I cooked down the liquid/spices for over 1/2 hour, added the meat and blended the crap out of it all.

Welllll, I'm game for trying it, but...YOU won't send any to me!!!  cwy hmm

I make chili with hamburger meat and tomato sauce & various spices, won't eat a wienie...'er hot dog without chili, cheese, onions, & mustard on it. But, there are many ingredients ya'll use in your chili that I don't.  confused sad8

But, then my chili is just plain ol' Texas chili. I don't cook Greek and I have to wonder why the name "Texas Hot" if it is a Greek style chili? I don't think we have a really big Greek community or eateries down here that I am aware of. Maybe in Dallas or Houston, but I don't know 'bout that.  dknow think

And yes Debz, they can and most times do give you the trots, hence the nickname "slimedog".  We don't know why they are called "Texas Hot" either. dknow  Greek immigrants came and took traditional chili and tweaked/added some of their own stuff to create this.  There are a few other closely related and similar Greek/chili dog styles in the North East mainly New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, and Detroit.  Some are known as Coney Island dog, Coney dog, and the Texas Wiener to go along with our Texas Hot.  :gomer:  I will also add we for some reason have tons of Greek diners here.  Man, dem boys can cook.  Cooking breakfast to them is like an easy art form.  Nakia?  I think your part of the woods had many German immigrants, and they are the ones who started brisket and sausages in Texas and influenced much of what your BBQ is down there.

Y'all want some "whine" with that cheese?  laffhrd  I didn't have any belly issues with this...wasn't spicy at all.  It is similar to a chili dog....although no chunky meat or beans..eww.  It's also very good to dip your fries or onion rings in!  dinner

Hi hmltnjim.  hi5 "Buffalo Parrot was the founder-Administrator of this forum.

He has recently retired and passed the forum on to Wendy, Debra and me to Co-Admin. He doesn't come over here any longer. So I don't think you will be able to get the recipe. Sorry bout that.  hmm
