i've bought pine nuts before. i know the fids love 'em. but they are almost as expensive as GOLD.  bugeye  so i use them as special treats for the fids. Skittles loves them. i'm pretty sure he'd stand on his head for a pine nut.  lol  Caleb also loves them. but if he's in a snarky mood, like if i'm using it as a reward for getting his shirt on, he will throw it.  bugeye  as the extraordinarily EXPENSIVE treat goes flying across the room i go running after it.  oh yes, i DO snatch it up and put it back in the vault...er uh, i mean in the plastic baggie. the bag of shelled pine nuts i got at work was $2.50 for 2.25 oz. then i got a bag of pine nuts in the shell from nuts.com (aka nutsonline), a 1lb bag for $12. so today i broke 'em out for special birdie treats. i wrapped a few in tissue paper and offered 'em like little pieces of hard candy. worked out quite well, i think i'll be doing that more often in some of the forraging toys. i'm also using them for caleb's treat for his 'trick training'.  Even twiggy, marley, and ollie like the shelled ones. they just arent strong enough to break the shells on 'em.

I ordered a bag of them for myself before my macaw boys came home. I got mine from superiornutstore.com. I order my raw unsalted pumpkin seeds from them in 10 lb boxes for my own use. I dehydrate them for my own use:drool:

I have used nutsonline in the past. I didn't like the taste of the pine nuts like I thought I would & just stuck them in the freezer. Once I started looking for snacks to use for my boys, I tried them. Roscoe doesn't care much for them, but Angel does. Angel likes pumpkin seeds & Roscoe only eats them when he is in the mood. Both boys love pistachios, but they are super expensive whether you buy retail or order them & retail I haven't found any without salt in them. They don't get very many of them & I'm glad I don't like pistachios or we'd all be in the poor house!  oh

Nakia check the grocery stores for unsalted pistachios as most carry them. I get mine in the produce department.
