As some of you remember, about a month & half ago or so I posted that a friend of a friend of a friend had a conure she wanted to find a home for. So, long story short we finally got our schedules to match & went to see her bird. She did indeed have a conure, a pineapple green cheek and she was just looking for someone she felt was the right person to take good care of her baby. She had to increase her work days & hours to where she doesn't have time for the bird anymore.  sadboy3 The lady and her then husband got it from a pet shop after the original owner returned it. The bird does not like men, I suspect due to the original owner who happened to be a man, so her husband didn't like that the bird liked her better. In the divorce she got custody of the conure & has had it for 4 yrs. now.

So anyway, they originally thought it was a male & named it Pete. She says it is a female, not sure how she knows. Maybe it laid an egg. dknow I didn't think it proper to ask her & make it sound like I thought she didn't know her bird. The bird's name was changed to Peta and when she took her out of the cage & held her on her finger, I asked her to come to me & she did. Peta loves to give kisses & sit on your shoulder. She is a gorgeous little girl (I'm sticking with that since I don't really need to know for sure) and just a darling fiddie. loveuk

We stayed & visited with Peta & Melba, the lady who owned her for over 2 hours. When I got ready to go, I asked Melba if she still wanted to give Peta to me & told her, "Just because I'm here, if you want to keep her or feel it isn't a good match I will understand." Melba said she let Peta decide & when she went right to me, she knew I was the one.  :twirl:

Sooo, we put Peta in the pet carrier & her cage in the back of the p.u. & headed home with her. The cage which I think she has lived in for her pat 4 yrs. with Melba is a good cage, but not very large. Not in my opinion that is & of course on the way home I stopped at the local pet shop in Abilene & got her a brand new larger one to start her new life with us.  roll

I also added a little to her name so as not to change it completely. I thought Peta was just too short & didn't roll off my tongue so easy. I decided to name her: Peta Conchita Bonita and she seems to like it, or maybe I've been around my fiddies too long... confused Once home I got her back into her old cage while I set up the new cage. She was very interested in what I was doing & I opened her cage door to see if she wanted to explore her new world. She was reluctant to have me hold or help her, so I let her climb around on her old cage for awhile. I took pics & talked to her & if I got out of her sight, she would chirp ever so quietly to me & I'd answer her. She did that for probably a good hour & then hubby woke from his nap & went to see her. :deer:

Well, she definitely does NOT like men (good girl  wink1, just kidding) and began to ruffle up & chirp in a cussing sort of way. He gave her a treat & she took it, then she decided to fly over to the rat's cage & I went to get her off before they decided  her toes looked like yummy worms. She got right on my finger & up to my shoulder, so I sat down at the computer table with her & let her give me kisses & sit a spell. She is a very sweet baby & I can't find anything wrong with her yet. hugu I'm sure as I get to know her she will let me know what kinda' little stinker she can be. wink1

So here is Peta Conchita Bonita, my little green cheek.  happyjack

This is a pic of the cage that she was living in and came with her.

This is the cage I bought for her on the way home with her.

And finally, Peta Conchita Bonita on my shoulder looking like the little darling she is!

I haven't moved her to the new cage yet. I showed it to her & she ran up my arm as if to say, "Nope, ain't my home!" I will let her settle in for the 4 days I am at work which starts tonight again. When I'm off I will work on getting her used to it & moved in permanently.   I still have to get the new cage set up too. I got tired & had too much other things to do to finish last night. :dufus:

COOL!!

Try placing her cage in the larger one, if it will fit in there, leave the door open and she will get used to her new cage while you are doing your 4 day stint.

Thanks everyone, she is sweet & a very pretty girl. Yes, Mikey she likes me. She has been loved & nurtured by Melba, the lady who gave her to me. She just must have been treated mean by the man who owned her first & took her back. Hubby is working with her, giving her treats and she is warming to him. He isn't afraid of her beak like he is my macaws.  lol I told him her's may be tiny, but they can slash a cut on your finger quicker that the big ones & it does hurt. I did then tell him, but the big ones can just take the whole finger off instead of slashing it.  oh laugh He was looking at me like I'd lost my mind.  :deer:

Can't put the old cage in the small one Sondra or I'd do that. Since this is a flight cage, it has 2 small doors, one above the other. The old cage is close & today she climbed all over the new one. I already put some of her toys that came with her in the new one & she is getting comfortable with it being around.  :twirl:

I am glad I picked the right one for a conure lorek & Mar. There were others more fancier with fancier prices, but I liked that this gives her plenty of room to play & exercise when she can't be out. Her old cage was definitely too small for even a single budgie in my opinion.  roll

Thanks wishy for the compliment.  happyjack I am getting better at having my picture taken.

handshappy  congrats on the new angel!  loveuk  she is a beautiful fiddie. i can see where that cage would seem too small for you...Miss i-have-a-20-foot-walk-in-aviary-for-my-macaws....IN THE HOUSE.  roll  smile3  no seriously, i'm sure she'll adore that cage once she gets used to it. when she realizes how much playing room she has, she'll be eager to move in! i used to have a flight cage like that (in white) for twiggy. it was great in size but the two small doors made me hafta do a contortionist kinda move to clean it.  dmblaf

ya know, i KNOW there a plenty of good men out there. but its a sad state of things how many fids are scared of men.  sad8

btw, tell hubs no worries bout the macaw brothers, typically macaws are 'crushers' rather than 'cutters'... so they wont actually remove the digit, they'll just crush it and grind the bones to bits.  smile3 thumb  what's a few splints, pins, and bone grafts among friends?  dknow   lol

dknow We actually have 6 flight cages! :cstars:
I am counting Kito's as one, the size of it to the size of him is like a flight cage and the IRN have a looooooooong flight cage. (maybe I should count that one as 2!)  They really are great cages though.
I think ur hubs will make nice progress with PetaCB!  Time and patience and she will learn to trust him!  While keeping all his digits!

I like your tape measure tozie, I need to get one. Did you get it from Lowes or Harbor Freight Tools... lol It isn't quite that big...yet thinkin3

Crushing, slicing, snapping, whatever on the digits scares hubby... laugh He's a wimp when it comes to critters. He didn't grow up with animals in the house like I did & boy did he pick the wrong gal to spend eternity with...or maybe it just feels like an eternity by now!  dmblaf laffhrd He is learning how to work with 'em & does sometimes get Roscoe on his arm. Roscoe is reluctant, but obliges him as long as he offers a truce treat.  roll

From what Melba told me about her ex husband, it could very well well have been him that Peta did not like. He was not a very nice guy & she should have gotten rid of him long before she did. He is supposed to either be in or has been in prison for drugs & other worse things, so her & Peta were better off & he may have been abusive toward the little darling.  littleangel

I know she hasn't been taught to step up or any other commands & she is fully flighted, so a nice wing clip is in order until she learns a few things. Right now it is a follow til she gets into a situation  to get her back in her cage after she has been let out. Melba said she let her fly all over the house when she was home. I don't mind her flying some for exercise, but not while I need to train her & she knows she can move faster than me. It will be safer til she gets used to her new home & people.  wink1

Know what ya' mean 'bout the cage doors, that is the only thing I don't like about flight cages. I can reach well enough to clean, but certain things can't go in & I am used to a 15 ft wide door after all on that 20 ft aviary.... :deer: No I do like the doors a bit larger, but I can get used to it & she will love the limbs since she did not have any in her old cage. She only had one wooden perch & toys to climb on, it will be very different.  stupid1
