I may not be a man but i have this 'manly' obcession with tools.  happy  i absolutely LOVE my tools. and i have a better variety than many of the men i know.  dmblaf  So yesterday i was out galavanting round town with jimmy. We went to lunch and then the usual stops: lowes, walmart, petsmart, etc. He mentioned going across town to the Big Lots. hmmm, havent been there in 8 or 10 years. so i said 'sure!' and across town we went. As we chatted and drove, we started talking bout my flooring project and my tools. he says "its a shame you had to have those tools yesterday, you could've gotten 'em lots cheaper at harbor freight"  think 'harbor freight? what's that?' it turned out to be right next to BigLots and OMG!  bugeye tools, tools, and more tools! power tools, hand tools, car tools, household tools, and SALES! OMG! they had EVERYTHING i could ever dream of for my tool shelf right there ON SALE! Warehouse prices! loveuk i was running from shelf to shelf going  happy  i want one of these... one of these...omg!! i have been looking for these!!! happy happy happy Where some women have shoes, some have purses (deb!  smile3 ) i LOVE my tools! so i grabbed the next 3 weeks worth of sale sheets, got their web address, and signed up for the mailing list. They dont have Name brands like Black and Decker, Skil, or DeWalt. but after reading the reviews on the brands they do carry, the Drill Master brand seems just fine. If i were in construction, they wouldnt do the job, but for my powder-puff projects, yup! exactly what i need! I will be going back this weekend cause they have the angle grinder i want for $10!  handshappy clap  they have ear protection (Gatornationals) for 2/$5 in a couple weeks, and omg... so  much! i just cant tell you how much they had! they have the drill press i will be investing in come January or February next year. it's just the cooolest things in the world.  happy i cant express how excited i was yesterday.  lol

snicker, i was so excited i forgot to include the web address.  lol

LOL I have one too, such fun!!  and none of this "manly obsession" thing, you are just a woman who likes toys with POWER!  :glasses: my first tool was a pair of pliers when I was 11.  nothing wrong with that! we are independent women who need more than mixers and vacuums!

I also love Harbor Freight! Their tools are reconditioned & well worth the price. We bought our generator from there at one of their tent sales. If they have a tent sale GP EARLY!! They only have a few of most of the good items, so if you wait untill noon they are gone.

I went to Harbor Freight last week in Abilene (the only close town with named stores around me) looking around. I go when I am looking for a cheaper deal on something I really want. I found a small portable drill press I wanted. They are discontinuing the size I wanted & I didn't want the one that takes up half my parrot play area floor space (hubby wants that one!), so I went home empty handed.  sadboy3 I was in there specifically to find a tool cart to make another play perch, but didn't find one I liked for what I had in mind. One of my perches is on a tool cart.  happyjack

Looked online & they still have 'em, looked at others online, but decided I prefer to be able to "finger" tools I am thinking about buying to see if it feels right in my hand & I will like how it works. Sooo, went to Lowes yesterday (yep tozie, you & me frequent the same stores when shopping: Lowes, PetsMart & other pet shop, Wally World. Basically in that order. Human shopping is usually the last thing I do) and found one I liked the features on. It was a bit higher than the HF one, but it did have a better crank handle and swivel to the drilling platform.  thumb

Now it will be much easier to drill holes in my  parrot toy making wood than just the hand drill alone. I also buy my own tools & I have to hide them from hubs. Not because he doesn't like me to get them, but because he will use something & never put it back. Or he scatters all the bits & pliers around & ya' can't find anything to work with. Hubby has a portable drill press that is over 20 yrs. old & parts are beginning to fall apart on it, so I guess next he will get his floor model he keeps looking at.  roll

ya know, it just cracks me up how many of us here have so many tools... and good tools too. I remember growing up it was just me,mom and my sis, mom used a butter knife as a screwdriver, a high heeled shoe as a hammer.  dmblaf  but when jess first moved out, part of her house stuff i got her was a cheap set of basic tools: hammer, some screwdrivers, pliers, cutter.

I've been working on this floor all week. I do my cutting, mixing and whatever outside on the carport. tues the guy who runs the auto shop next door finally asked me "what are you building over there??" dmblaf   i have finally managed to destroy that "helpless young widow" personna that he thought i was.  dknow  i have sooo many projects in my head that i want to do around here.

Know what ya' mean about so many projects you wanna' do... roll

Besides the rearranging of the indoors to accommodate fiddies things, I am churning ideas in my head for a bird patio off my back door that will be wired in. So that way I can take the boys & girl when she gets home outside in the fresh air & sit with them to climb & play. Then in my front yard off my front door, I want to build a glassed in sun room that we can wheel the play perches out on and sit out there in any kind of weather.  confused

Hubby is like...Damn woman, I ain't no spring chicken any more... stupid1 So, since we don't quite have the energy to build from the ground up anymore like we used to I already have the things I will use for the major part of the structures thought out. For the back patio one I will use one of these large gazebo type patio toppers that bolt together. We will add braces & partitions to attach the wire to it & I want a double swing out door like in horse stalls so I can open the bottom when not in use by the birds for the dogs to go out in the yard without having the whole door open. The front sun room I will get one of the  large carports. I saw one in Abilene the other day that has posts on the sides in the center which would make two nice large windows for seeing out. Anyway, I am always looking at things I can refashion to fit my needs.  :twirl:

Now my Mom had her own tools & I learned at an early age how to build things for myself. I didn't grow up with a man in the house either & in the early years of my marriage, hubby worked long hard hours, so I built all my cages & stuff by myself. Only since we work the same hours & are together all the time now has he been roped into helping me with my projects...poor thing... :deer: laugh lol

lol i swear! we've been sharing a brain or something!  dmblaf  i wanna turn my carport into a screened in area for the fids. i know HOW I'm gonna do it. i can frame it out with 2x4's, add some double screen, voila! screened in room. attached to my carport is my laundry room, and in the laundry room is a door that leads to the back yard. so what i'd like to do is open that door back up and put a doggie door in my house door. that would make it possible for the dogs to go in and out as they please when i'm not home and give them a covered area to hang out in bad weather. The dog's job, how they 'earn their keep', is to protect the fids so i dont want them locked out all the time.
the other project i want to do is add that live feed that wishy wants and hook it up to an app on my phone so i can check on the fids when i'm at work.... and so i can spy on ollie, i think that fid plays when i'm not home.
then there's the screen i wanna put on the doorways, one from the bird room so twiggy will quit dive bombing skittles and one on the doorway between the livingroom and the kitchen. so when i DO get that doggie door in, i dont hafta worry bout skittles sneaking out the doggie door. Then there are about a million 'little' projects in my head that i sooo want to do.
