One of the other threads mentions how birds are not mimicing us but actually speaking our language.  I thought it may be fun to give some examples of how our birds use our language appropriately.

I will start with one...

I slipped and fell one day in a puddle of water the dogs had spilled while playing.  When I hit the floor Zuri piped up and said, " Are you OK?!"

I use this expression when one of them get spooked and fall or fly into a wall etc.  So she knew what it meant and used it.

Great idea ditty! that is just tooo cute! zuri is such a sweetie.  loveuk

oh yeah, they definitely understand. of my five, i think skittles is the best at expressing himself. But i think Ollie and Caleb has a great understanding of the english language, but are still not as comfortable expressing themselves for whatever reason.

The best story i have is old... about 2 yrs old, actually. Me and Drew were watching a movie, Monsters v/s Aliens. Skittles was on the sofa between us...or was he on my knee?  think  anyway, he was between us. Drew playfully reached over and poked skittles in the wing. very clearly, Skittles said to him "say you're sorry!". We laughed and drew says "i'm sorry skittles". skittles responded "s'alright".  laugh We had to stop the movie we were laughing so much!

This happens regularly:
I get up and if i'm off or i close, i sit on the sofa in my gown. Its nice to move slowly and take my time when i have the option. When i close i will tell them as i'm leaving "momma gotta work. i'll be home at nite nite time." Whenever  i leave the house i tell them roughly what time to expect me: nite nite time, dinner time. I've been using  'momma wont be gone long' when i have to run up town for a quick trip. And if i'm just going outside to check the mail, put in a load or laundry, or whatever, i say "i'll be right back."  anyway, once its apparent i'm not gonna get up and get dressed right away, skittles will ask me "go...nite nite" he's dropped the word 'work' lately. but the question is still clear: mom, do you have to close at work today? i will answer him with "no, momma's off today. i'm gonna stay home" or "yes, momma's gotta close tonite. i wont be home til nite nite" he will ask the question about 3 times, then once he's gotten the same answer each time, he's satisfied that we are understanding each other and doesnt ask again til the next day.

i'm sure there are more but  :morn:  with my coffee deprived brain having trouble engaging, it'll hafta wait a bit.  dmblaf

 thumb Good idea!

Julio belts out "Isssss ok!" and usually at appropriate times.  I had usually said that if someone got spooked or for whatever reason so he does use it when something happens....right or wrong! but still fitting!

The Julio thing like Mar said is right on.  Just baffling at times.  And hey, when I walk in their room and hear 1 to 3 of them make a fart noise it makes sense.  Many times I walk through them and let one rip because I want to entertain them and they do it back to me now even though it may not be my actual English language it is mine none the less smile3  So I guess to them I am a fart or feces  dknow

Maybe they are trying to tell you "YOU STINK!!"  :oopse5:

D!   laugh  True tho.

When I drink soda I burp, loud, have had contests with my son and I put him to shame. LOL  So when HW sees me with a soda can he burps at me.

At night time when we say Cassie time for bed.  Yoshi will pipe up and yell out Nite nite!

And when anyone is leaving out the door Yoshi will yell out a Bye Bye.

Sometime back I was going to go out. Cocoa wanted to follow me and I quickly used the curtain to shield myself to prevent her from flying to my shoulder.
As what my wife told me Cocoa stood on a book shelf and shouted "no good no good". My wife asked her "who no good" and she angrily replied "you".
My wife said "Cocoa no good". Our feathered one angrily replied "NO".

A couple of Higgy stories.

Hubs was coming into the shop and he had to pass by Higgy's playgym, this was in July.

                                                                                                 Higgy: Hey! Hey! C'me here!

                                                                                                 Hubs: Whatcha want Buddy?

                                                                                                 Higgy: Merry F#*&ing Christmas

Hubs cracked up and started walking away when Higgys says:              Hey! Hey! Geeeorge!

                                                                                                Hubs: Whatcha want Higgy?

                                                                                                Higgy: Happy F&#*ing New Year!

We used to have Higgy in the Kitchen as he would freak out in the shop, he had 2 huge windows to look out. One day he saw 2 starlings building a nest in a corner of the porch eave. He asked "what they doing?" I told him and that was the end of it. A few weeks later he calls me over and asks again "What they doing?" I explained that they were feeding babies. A couple weeks later he calls me over and says "Baby burd?" I said yes. He watched them being fed out in the open and I'd hear "open your mouth" "Good burrrd!" One day I heard "Help! Help!" I went to see what was going on and one of the babies was on the driveway. I told Higgy the baby was learning to fly
and sure enough it flew to the porch railing. A couple days later I heard Higgy say " Awwwwwwwwwww, all gone." "Bye-bye" When I looked out the window there was a baby on the porch railing.
