So my mind went immediately to debz when this first email occurred.

So... in all the saddening news of late, one major downer for me is that my super amazing awesome outstanding vet has decided he is moving back "home" (to alaska) and as such my whole feathered and furred kids alike are losing the best vet ever.  He is the vet who diagnosed drakah a few years back so in my mind, he's the vet that saved her life.  he's been there day and night (literally... answered my phone call at 3am to his house) to help me through her seizures and her thyroid disease and everything else related to her diabetes.  to say the least i am very grateful for him and everything he's done for me.

so, as it turns out, he has a cockatiel who is fairly young but which his wife is very attached to.  they are moving in two weeks and it is a six day drive by car.  they have talked it out and decided that the best interest for their bird is to probably find him a home here in KS where he would be cared for because they honestly do not think the bird would survive the stress of the trip.  the wife is really attached to him and its her first bird.  my vet then contacted me and asked if i would please take him in.

Since the passing of Kiwi, I was only considering taking in another bird if it was a canary wing, and only if necessary. otherwise, i was not looking for any more birds.  I have my hands full with school and such.  BUT, I can't really say no.  i've said no to other people, other birds, other situations, but this just seems like the right thing to do.  So, all i know is his name is Apollo, he is hand tame and gives kisses, loves to whistle, he has a crooked (broken at birth?) toe, and i am to pick him up sometimes next week.  I don't' even know gender (tho whistling tends to make me think male), color, age, temperament around other birds/dogs... but ya know... we will soon see :)

they are afraid the stress of the six day drive will be too much for him.  they don't want to find out.  trust me the lady loves him!

IF the travel cage is large enough she/he should be fine, but this is their decision and I understand them wanting the best for their baby.

Whooah there! I'm not questioning her love and devotion to her fid, I ask because folks that are that close need to also keep in mind the amount of stress on Apollo when being left behind.  I'm also going to go ahead and ...oh never mind... I dont know why people bother to post things if they will take offense to every bit of advice that is outside "good for you"...!!!    sadboy3
