He looks really good!

If you want to try to break the habit of him plucking try not putting his dry foods in his bowl, hide them in his cage so he has to forage for them. If he has to work for his food he'll have less time to pluck. Finger traps filled with pellets, toilet paper tubes filled with shredded paper, nuts, dried fruit, dry cereal, and pellets, small paper cups filled with the same, or simply wrap up some goodies in pieces of coffee filters.

Awww poor Caleb, Mommy is just sooo mean!! You should be so ashamed of yourself trying to help him heal like that.  lol

I love the pics, so typical of a pouting parrot. He does look good tho', despite his efforts to beat the shirt.  handshappy

caleb is doing great. he's his normal cockatoo self. <griN> a few days ago i was holding him and he pulled a wood chip outta his shirt.  oh i asked him  hey! what da ya got IN there???  hmm   dmblaf   if i leave the shirt alone he's fine with it. as a matter of fact, i havent even tried to touch it since i put it back on him several days ago. Wed after work i plan to take it off, i'm off thur and i'm hoping to be able to leave it off for at least a day or two. He gets pretty hostile when i reach for the velcro. Still havent figured out if its cause he considers it 'his' or because he doesnt want me playing 'try it now....how about now? .....is this better?...." dmblaf

patti, that is the raw spot at the top  of the wound that he made, its not really a hole.

bangdhead  well, after my earlier post i saw caleb with his beak buried deep in the side of the shirt. if ya'll see, i had cut out the right side so he could preen his new feathers that were coming in. WELL... he opened a whole brand new spot in the middle of his chest, just inside the shirt.  pullhair bangdhead  so i guess its nearly official, he will probably be wearing some sort of shirt or another forever. so, i'm working on a lighter shirt with smaller (but still durable) straps. i'm gonna work with him to be nicer about putting the shirt on and taking it off so i can at least take it off when i'm gonna be able to keep an eye on him. Right now his shirt is off, he's preening those back feathers that he cant really get to with the shirt on.  sadbigeye  oh well, i knew it could come to this. i feel awful that i didnt catch it sooner. now we have weeks and weeks of ssd creme and healing ahead of us.... again.

The spot on his shoulder that he'd made a couple weeks ago is healing nicely, still got a big ole scab on it, but its doing okay.

tozie that is heart wrenching :(  i'm sorry.  you are doing so much for him and he has come so far.  don't give up on him ever changing his habits but it will probably take a really really long time to undo the trauma that put them there :(  you are still the very best person for this job for him.

yup, deb, a brand new spot. previously fresh clean skin, tho bare of feathers for the most part.  Tho the wound was freely bleeding this morn, i stopped the bleeding easily, put the ssd on it and covered it right away. its not as deep as the original wound, but its definitely not just a shallow 'irritation' like he has on his upper shoulder. i dont think stitches will be necessary since its so fresh and new. i caught it pretty quickly and got it covered right up.  So, now he's in his full shirt.  he's fine once i get him in it, as long as i dont fiddle with it. The problem is, putting the ssd creme on it daily will mean at least taking one of the straps loose and incuring his wrath.  slaph oh well, we'll manage one way or another.  dknow

back to the drawing board. <sigh>

Awww, poor Caleb. Wished he could understand that he is hurting himself & his fav. person...his Mommy.  sadboy3

At least the shirts do their job, heaven knows what might happen if he didn't respect the shirts & your efforts to keep him off his tender hide.  sad8

You are a wonderful fiddie Mommy & he would probably not even be alive by now if he hadn't found you.  hugu

We are all still here for you in any way we can help, anytime!    :twirl:

I certainly know how fast things can change with these guys when you think you are doing everything right or at least to the best of your ability!  :deer:

I'll check with CSU Exotics dept. See what they are using lately. maybe? dknow   hmm  http://www.aviancollar.com/
