i am still trying to learn all the lingo.   think

Dad lived in Tenn for a long time, he loved it down there too, I guess it gets under your skin in a good way :)

Tozie told me she went down south to visit her mom and never went home, and that is why she lives where she lives.

Crawfish!! Cannot forget the crawfish! Even thought I bought one as a pet once :) lol.

When I was a kid we called them crawdads here. I never knew for many years that crawfish/crayfish & crawdads were the same thing.  laugh

I don't care for the flavor of 'em, they taste like the mud they like to live in to me. vomit  oh

My favorite is Mesquite smoked pit BBQ.  drool And ya' can't forget the peach cobbler & red beans.  droolon2

Mar, I'll get some of those pics taken of the prickly pear when they start blooming. So far no blooms yet, I haven't forgotten. I'll see if I can find some Texas Blue Bonnets blooming around the area. I have to remember to take my camera with me when I go places. thumb

Loved the video & music. I've been through a lot of those areas. The south is a beautiful part of our land.  :twirl:

Back in Nov. of last year I went to www.ancestry.com to find out about my Dad's side. He died when I was 12 in 1967, he was 66 yrs. old (Mom was 24 yrs. younger) and never knew much about his history. His parents died when he was very young. I found that the majority of Dad's family line lived in Georgia, Tenn., the Carolinas, Kentucky, Missouri, Penn. & Arkansas. They dated all the way back to the early 1600's living in the U.S. They mostly came from Scotland & Ireland. There was even a couple of decorated Civil war heroes mentioned. (Wrong side tho', I'm a devout Rebel in name only. Not in their original beliefs.)

My ancestors on that side didn't move to Texas til the 1800's. My grandparents were born in the 1870's in Texas. The biggest significant thing I found was that I am a descendant of the Todd family on my grandmother's side. The same family line as Mary Todd Lincoln, President Lincoln's wife. Her line & mine are connected to my 4 times great grandfather John Todd in Scotland. That is where my line splits from her line in the early 1600s. I know my Dad never knew that and I think...how awesome it would have been for him to have had internet & find out things like this.  smile3

I only paid for one month, it is kinda' pricey, so I didn't discover too much else except that my southern roots run much deeper than I ever thought possible.  handshappy
Mom's side is from Czechoslovakia, my grandparents were born there, then came here in the early 1900s and became naturalized citizens. So I know much more about them.

Everyone should try it once just to see what pops up you may have never known through handed down ancestral information & stories. I feel so much more connected to my dad's side now. I only wished I could have met all those folks & listened to their stories firsthand.  hugu

Cool family history  thumb

Here we call em crayfish if you see em in a creek or as bait for fishing.  If you are eating them we here call em crawfish or lobster dainties  dknow  And I do love feasting on em with butter and hot sauce dinner
