O.k. folks, here we go again. I done done it & am waiting for my darling Solomon Island Eclectus girl to get old enough to come home. This may not be the right place to post this since she hasn't gotten home yet. I just thought beings she is gonna' be my new arrival it should go in here.  dknow

Anyway, I sold about half of my snake collection yesterday & I will be using what I made to get my baby girl out of hock. I needed the space for the bird cage and play perches. I kept my favorite snakes that I like to interact with, so all is well.  wink1

Everybody, meet Leyla La Rue.

This is Leyla's first pic, she is the one on the right.

Leyla is on the right again. Her brother Cash is on the left.

Here Leyla is beginning to show her girlie colors.

Leyla's head is beginning to show a little red here.

In this head shot she is really becoming a redhead!

And now she is getting the blue coloring to her wings.

Her newest pic from yesterday in the brooder with her brother Cash. She is growing fast!

All these pics are courtesy of Vicki. She is also Roscoe & Angel's breeder. Right now Leyla is too far away for me to get to visit her.  cwy I will get to meet Leyla in a few months & I can't hardly wait till she gets home!  :twirl: loveuk

Wow, we've never had Eclectus chicks before I dont think. Too bad the breeder doesnt take good pics. I wish we could send one of our resident BP great photographers.

Thanks everyone. I do agree with Debz that the breeder's pics are not as good as they could be.  hmm She uses her iPhone for all her pics. You'd think someone who is in the business of raising parrots would have an awesome digital camera to make her babies look equally awesome, but maybe she's camera illiterate like me & just doesn't want to use one.  roll

I did notice no one that at least frequents the site since I've joined mentioned having an Eclectus. I was wondering if anyone else had one? I had a male that was a hand fed baby back in the 90s with my other parrots. I'd gotten him from a bird fair/expo when he was 7 months old & he was a super sweet boy. Back then the females cost several hundred dollars more than the males & I couldn't afford one.  bugeye

I had a choice & both were the same price, so I decided I'd like a cute little girl this time around. I would take Kakura my male ekkie to work with me once a week. I worked at our local V.F.W. as the bar manager & all the patrons loved him except the quartermaster. He grumbled about the "nasty" bird being there, he only liked cats.  slaph  Maybe if he'd been a cat bird he would have accepted him.  lol I would put Kakura on a small portable perch in the passenger seat for the ride & once there he stayed on his perch like a true gentleman. He loved getting snack treats from everyone & around 7:00 p.m. I'd have my son come pick him up to go home again. It was so much fun getting to take him with me & the other members were not pleased with the quartermaster, but he signed my paycheck & won out.  pullhair

Leyla's name just came to me one night at work. I was thinking  thinkin3 & thinking on a good name for her. I wanted something that sounded kinda' exotic. Their feathers do feel silky & look almost like fine hair. The males are a beautiful vibrant green, but I think I will really enjoy the striking color combo Leyla has even more.  :twirl:

Here is a link to The Land of VOS, they have a forum there for Eckkie owners, all kinds of facts about diet, which is different than most parrot diets as far as needs, a DIY section (which is great!0, and any help you may need as far as questions go.

Thanks Sondra for the link. I actually have already been there & read almost everything on that site. It is a great source of info'. I was checking out all I could find on the net about ekkies before I decided to go ahead & get one. My books have so very little info'.  pullhair

Yeah, I know their diet needs a bit more tweaking & vitamin A to keep their skin & feathers in tip top shape. Since it had been so long ago that I owned one, I needed to refresh my memory about their extra care.  happyjack

Leyla will have her own cage. In fact, I am setting up the large cage I originally bought for Roscoe & Angel. It will have lots of room for her when she can't be out. I would never trust Roscoe's beak up against her small size. They will get to know each other after the quarantine period  away from each others home ground under supervision.  :twirl:

She won't have a nice aviary like the macaw boys (I don't have enough room for another one), but I have plans of adding a room onto the front of my house for the birds. Where the aviary sits I have a double window & we will open that up for a wide door into the bird room. The room is going to be 10'X14' & I will section off areas for the different size fiddies to keep all safe & sound. After all this is done, I am going to use the aviary on the outside of the room for a little fresh air when I'm home to watch over them on nice days. It will have to be remodeled some to make it super safe, but they will NEVER stay in it while I'm not home!  stop
