...is a full time job!  slaph  caleb is a sweetheart. but he gets bored soooo easy. when he's bored, he preens. and that's when we have trouble, i think. he's had his fill of wood for a while. he still chips a bit. but he's not a one bird wood chipper anymore. caleb's favorite treat is the red grapes. well, he's hormonal enough, so i'm not giving him many. but i dug out the forage ball today and put about 6 in there. not enough to fill it. so each time caleb turns the ball, they fall to the bottom. it took him all of 15 mins to figure it out.  slaph  and then we have his tendency to wander. he gets in the floor of the bedroom and plays.... or digs. he's dug a small hole in the carpet.  he's also found a cardboard box of my old papers and has begun digging a nest out of it.   slaph  so i put a plastic lid from a rubbermaid tote in front of it. he moved it.  slaph  so i put a little 'fence' round it. he climbed it and is now standing on top of the 'fence' chewing the rubbermaid tote lid to bits.  hmm  dmblaf  i stuffed a coconut with shredded paper and almonds. he emptied it. i gave him a pan of water with some kale in it. he chewed up the kale and took it out of the water and threw it in the floor, then put his toys in the pan of water... including a stuffed birdie toy.  slaph  he does love his loofa toy. he picks a bit off and balances it on his back or hides it under his wing. sometimes he even puts it over his 'boo boo' on his chest. he also loves birdie bagels, he does the same with those little shreds.  so i'm BARELY staying ahead of him as far as 'things to do' go. but WOW! i can see where he's going to tax even MY inventiveness soon.  lol

Buy woven mats, woven fans, woven hats, woven purses at the dollar store, fold in half, stuff them, and sew the halfs together. Use twine or faffia, or cotton rope to sew with, put in small foot toys, large beads, blocks, whole nuts, shredded paper. Plam fronds will keep him busy. you can buy the whole empty coconut shells and stuff them. Stuff his loofa and put a circle of wood on each end held in place with a rope going through the loofa.

bird nerds has the whole cocount shells. the one i have still has the fibers on it, i got it from birds.com, on clearance, if i remember right.  think

sondra, i was looking at the stuff at our dollar store and not only is it untrustworthy as far as bird-safe (it all says 'for decoration only' on it), its made in china.  i try to avoid made in china stuff for the fids and furries, if i can help it.

<snicker> palm leaves at the store?? i can just go in my yard!  dmblaf

Here is one cut in half and filled. The place I shop is undergoing an update so they are down.

Tozie,
As long as the fibers on the woven items are plain and unpainted I use them.

Just purchase the nut shells.  Crack with hammer and screw driver, empty liquid (or drink), scrape out inside, and boil for about 1/2 hour.
