The silicone pans have not been tested above 300 degrees Fahrenheit, but there have been reports of formaldehyde odors/ gases being emitted from them.

Your best bet is if it states that a product is non-stick do not use it. I would rather be wrong that find out I was by loosing a bird/pet, or causing sickness in a human. Ever havel flu-like symtoms a few hours after eating? It is probably because the food was cooked in a non-stick pan that had a scratch in it, yes, a scratch in one of those pans can cause a human to become sick and even cause death if the pan is very badly scratched.

Please....no Febreeze. Nothing that smells....no perfume or hairspray, etc. around the fids. They do make a cleaner called Seventh Generation that works well and is fume free. I also bought a cleaner from my vet called Maxima 256...good for cleaning around the fids. Disinfectant and as my vet says "Kills everything but the birds" (Mold, bacteria, viruses, etc.)

biokleen has started making a fabric refresher, it has  a rosemary and lemon scent. it seems to work quite well and its safe around fids, kids, and furries. i get most of my biokleen products at drugstore.com.. (btw, i just found out they are affiliated with my job and i get my empolyee discount from them too!  handshappy   )

This product is no better than Teflon. Use it if you have NEVER burned anything, let a pot boil dry, and always have a thermometer in the product you are cooking. The notice says safe to 500 degrees.......many stove tops cook higher than that on high.
Cast iron is the way to go to be safe.

the cookware is safe to that degree but it still does not emit fumes.  This is the one I checked into last year at some point.  I never actually bought any, just did research and was gonna buy some just never got around to it.

Well the birds are in seperate cages now.   clap    They had some kind of mishap yesterday before they were seperated and we were not home.  There was dried blood on the perches when i got home.   dknow  But the second cage had come in and was set up, but i had to go before we could put max in the new cage.  But they are both fine now.  No more blood on the perches.  The cleaning things are the biggest challenge for me. And the non stick pans.   UGH!   scared1  does anyone have an opinion on ionizers??  I saw some kind of cheap like 50 bucks or so, and wondered if that would help.  I hope that soon my book, "parakeets for dummies" will come in.  I am sure that will too answer my questions.  thanks to ya all.   peace

I read ionizers are not good around birds. This will get easier for you. its a lot to take in all at once.

I have also heard ionizers are dangerous around birds.  Like Jade said, this a a lot to take in.  But after a while it just becomes a part of life.  You will adapt and I am glad you are educating more.  The more the better off you and your birds will be and the easier all will be. thumb

stainless steel is great too! ionizers are bad news, I got rid of ours. air Purifiers is the way you want to go, they have a tower style that looks like the ionic breeze but is not an ionizer.. Honeywell makes a good one, just make sure the model you pick is not a purifier/ionizer all in one (some come that way)
it IS a lot to take in!! brain overload!! but it does become a way of life, and you don't notice anymore AND! YOU are healthier because you had toxins in your home you may not have even known were toxins!!
that is why they took canaries into the coal mines, they are more sensitive to toxins, and gave the men time to get out of there [if they saw the bird dead].

it is good to see you making an effort to learn how to best care for your birds (and as a result your family) some people just simply do not care. :(

Ionizers are bad for humans and animals alike! Poeple who have asthma have increased attacks when in around ionizers

so air purifiers are the way to go.  I don't have either right now, but have wanted something for  a while.. smile3   we found a frying pan we had without non stick coating.  And I think we have a few more.  We just will have to adjust the way we cook.  YAY!  such good advice.   wink1

They recently had a big set of stainless cookware at Macy's or something for $29!  I am sure there will be lots of sales after xmas....I even check the thrift stores when I go there too...garage sales etc.
We had a nice tower purifier we got at a garage sale for $5...but it recently bit the dust but we have 2 smaller ones as well.  Misting them often helps cut down on the dander.  Aussie our Bourkes absolutely loves to be misted!  The more mist the better for him!
