B and I went shopping in Rochester last night, and had some wings at the (Rochester) Anchor Bar. I hope the originals in Buffalo are better. Service was very slow, wings OK, but I have had better. Sal's Birdland wings  dinner kick these wings to the curb.

I don't care much for the Anchor bar's wings.  Not sure how those shows or critics get sent to the places that they do. :ugstpd:

I heard the Anchor Bar was going to open up a place in Rochester and guess it already happened.  This I will say.  The Anchor Bar did invent the chicken wing (Buffalo wing), but they at best are average.  Nobody from here goes there.  There are a good 50 plus places here that have way better and a few that blow Anchor Bar off the charts.  Gotta find them small hidden Buffalo pubs if ya know what I mean?  They became too commercialized..

Shoot, D.  The ones that you make at home are probably better than all of them!

These were mediocre at best. Now, if you ever have a chance to get some Sal's Birdland Wings.  ( originated in Rochester...we have a place around here that makes them) ..well, then the wing Gods are smiling down upon you. Each one as big as your fist...breaded and then deep fried. Sauce is added last. I prefer mine plain with bleu cheese or ranch on the side. These are the absolute best wings I have ever had.  loveuk

The best wings I had was at a place called Limerick's.  They were not far from my former home.  They moved to another location that looks like a shack that will fall over at any time.  They were a small pub/sports bar.  They were a good size and cooked to perfection.  Crispy on the outside but still juicy on the inside.  Sauce was great.   droolon2  Buffalonians do not like their wings overly big but not small either.  And breaded?  No! slaph  Also an FYI if you ever are in Buffalo.  If you order ranch dressing for the dip, they aint gonna have that.  Just blue cheese baby :smokinjoe:  The trick to good wings is the oil.  All pizzerias here (there are thousands) sell wings.  Sometimes good many times not.  Tiss because they are using their oil constantly which in turn affects the cooking quality.  That is why you hit the old Buffalo pubs built in the late 1800's.  You go to them and walk along those creaky hard wood floors, grab a stool, a pitcher of beer and order some wings.  Their oil is not used anywhere near the pizzerias and they aint in a rush to cook em.  If they give you a large plate of them, covered with a large wooden bowl (for the bones), with carrot sticks along with the celery sticks you know you are in for a treat! dinner  Take that bowl of the top and that steaming smell hits your gullet! droolon2  I am glad you gotta great wing place Jade.  If ever out there I will have to try em thumb
