My sweet widdle ollie-bird has a new trick. He is showing more and more need for physical interaction from me. I have always respected his wishes, if he didnt want me to mess with him physically, i just let him hang out and talked to him with my hands behind my back. Well, he's been getting off the cage, waddling over to me, climbing up my tv table, and getting on the sofa. the first time he wanted to sit in my lap... uh... no!  stop  sorry, too close for me bucko! lol! but i scooted over and let him sit next to me on the sofa. Well, now its becoming a regular after work thing. Well, tonite he just kinda hung out under the table making his little noises at me. so i was bent over giving him scritches and he rolled over on his back!  loveuk  So he and i played that way for several minutes, him getting belly scritches, chin scritches and him holding my hand, and playing catch the birdie tongue or catch the momma finger.  I was just so touched! he finally rolled over for me!! He's been wanting to do it for a while, i guess cause he sees marley and skittles do it. Well, then he climbed up my table, got on the sofa and rolled over again. playing and letting me rub his belly, head, chin, just everywhere. He's quickly getting to where i can safely touch him just about anywhere as long as i dont make quick movements. He's currently sitting next to me here on the sofa nibbling a granola bar he snitched off my table. But he's definitely happy, relaxed, and just in explore-mode.  He reaches out and beaks something on the sofa and looks at me, like "hey can i touch this? how about this? this too??"  dmblaf

It is such a joy to hear about the progress he is making and it's all because you let him be who he is yet place no demands on him.

metal Yay momma Tozie and Ollie!  A wonderful accomplishment and gain of love and trust!
Baby (the youngest of the Lovies) has been getting more comfy with us getting closer and closer to him.  We are able to give him little skritches on his tozies!  That is before T, J, BP and Chance start causing a raucous!

Ditty, i think Marley is the one who's really started the roll over game. Its a natural thing for caiques in general. As a matter of fact, it was him rolling over on his back and doing the backstroke across the bottom of his cage at the pet store that hooked me. So it started out with just Marley doing it. Of course Skittles saw me and Marley play that way, and, much like Ollie, he kinda wanted to and would lean on his side. Then over time he would roll over but he was so nervous his grip on my hand would be unbearable and his nipping was too hard too. So i would keep a stuffed toy and let him grip that toy and chew on it instead of my hand. Over time he got more comfy with it so now its just another game. Then Ollie came along and he sees Skittles and Marley do it, so he naturally wanted to give it a try. He started like skittles, he kinda layed sideways but he always had one foot firmly gripping whatever surface he was on. But last nite, he took the leap of faith.  loveuk  both feet kinda curled into fists, and rolled over on his back.  Twiggy has never shown any desire to play that way, but she's very much a 'touch-me-not' kinda fid.

awww, Mar, congrats on the 'baby' steps. <snicker>

Patti, i think, like my angels, as Molly sees how much fun it is and that its safe, she'll wanna do it to. I would expect Peyote to do it too. Thats kinda a natural for conures, too, if i remember right.

AAANNNNNNDDDD, tonite i was scritching him through the bars, he put his widdle foot/hand through the bars so we could hold hands. and on impusle, i kissed his footie. he was okay with it. didnt snatch his foot away and didnt try to lunge at me. he's becoming such a sweet fiddie... he still goes into overload like marley does, but his overload is much more dangerous.  dmblaf
