My husband and I just saw Capt. Christopher's education program at the Las Vegas Renaissance Age of Chivalry event. What a wonderful experience!! We learned our African Grey is left-handed. His name is Tor and he is a happy well-adjusted bird. We followed the same instincts we used with our children and paid attention to Tor's body language and reaction to us. I just read the "Parrot Bill of Rights" and agree with it. We will return to this site for information and advice. Tor is an excellent talker and he does not just mimic our words. Tor and I converse the most. Which puzzles me because he has chosen my husband as his person. Thoughts or advice?

Two months ago we added our second rescue dog to our family. Duncan, our first rescue and Tor have always gotten on very well. (By the way rescues pick you -- you don't pick them.) Lubin is a six lb. Pomeranian who was found wandering alone with no collar or tags near a very busy intersection in Las Vegas. Whoever had him was cutting his hair down to the skin so as to not have to groom him--this is what our groomer thinks. He is adjusting well and learning to be part of the pack; walk on a lease; and have better social skills. Poor little guy...Tor, ever the intelligent creature, quickly figured what buttons to push with him. Tor has a bell he has always enjoyed playing with. This bell drives Lubin berserk. Tor will be enjoying quiet time in his cage and decides to ring the bell just to see Lubin get spun up. Lubin is absolutely fascinated with Tor and will spend time sitting and staring at him.

Does anyone else have dog(s) and bird(s) that share space (along with their people)?

Welcome to the forum!

Lots of us have dogs and birds here. I have 2 small dogs ( a chihuahua and a mini schnauzer) and a flock of parrots. You will find that Mi Amore and Tozie have some great stories about their dogs and fids.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I also have dogs and birds.  My birds also like to mess with my dogs.  dmblaf    It does not take the birds long to figure out that they CAN either. LOL

2 of my 3 pups are rescues from StCroix.  They are the sweetest...  littleangel  So glad I found them.  One is a chi/dasch and ?? mix, the other is a corgi/beagle mix.  The 3rd pup I have is from a breeder , she is a 5 month old Italian Mastiff.  she is just learning about birds...interesting to see them interact.

hi and welcome and thanks for rescuing dogs, some of the rescues make the best pets. i have a quaker parrot that whistles in my husbands voice and gets the dogs to run by her cage as they think its my hubby whistling for them. after they go by her cage and look around she begins to laugh at them. i also have a green cheek conure that throws his food at the dogs and laughs when he hits them with the pellets. i have a pitbull boxer cross and a doberman pinscher. they are great with my birdies.

cant wait to learn more about tor and your doggies. make sure to check out the other pets area to see some funny dog stories, great photos and videos. this forum has plenty of things to read and learn from

We have a mini Doxie and a Bull Mastiff along with 5 birds (1 large, 1 medium, & 3 small birds) and all get along well. Our Grey calls our dogs to eat, tells them to knock it off, stop, etc. He also carries on a conversation with us. Higgy is my hubs bird and his favourite person, I am the dinner maker and chauffeur, yet he converses with both of us. Greys are one person birds for the most part, but usually "tolerate" others pretty well, sometimes they will only want their person and no one else, other times they will be an "everybody" bird but this is rare.

Hey there, welcome! Had 2 now one dog that is amazing with my 2 tiels. THey have the run of the house, but for the most part choose their designated area.  For awhile now, the tiels had excepted the dogs as part of the flock because on occasion, I would find my little girl, Cat, throwing down food to them and watching them fetch the tiny morsels, and my little boy Pipz, would bark right along with them. To this day, whenever the dog walks into the room he greets her by barking at her as if that's her designated name.  Everyone keeping a respectable distance and no fear among them.
