well a friend of mine and i decided to go on a rescue mission last week. this woman was already charged with animal cruelty in 2005 in another state. my friend knows her because she bought a pair of budgies from her once. well she called and said that she called the police on this lady because the amount of animals and the way they were treated had gone to far. there were about 70 birds involved with dogs, cats, chinchillas and rabbits. oh and some turkeys to. well my friend went in and got out 40 birds. i met up with her to take a few and ended up taking more then i planned because my friend ended up taking out 5 dogs as well so she had to send more birds with somebody and nobody wanted to help. my friend took in to her home 15 budgies,9 tiels and 3 lovebirds. i took in 9 finches,2 lovebirds, and 2 quakers. i took pictures of the cages they came in. the finch cage had 9 finches and 9 budgies living in it but my friend moved the budgies out of it right away.  from what i understand the chinchillas had all passed away, the turkeys were put down due to health and 2 of the 6 rabbits were put down and rest were taken out of the house. the police said that she could keep some of the animals but she had to get down to a certain number. she found homes for most of the dogs now i guess and there is about 15 birds left last i talked with my friend on tuesday. she said the police will be going back at some point to see if the numbers have been down sized on.

-lovie cage

-lovie cage

-2 quakers lived in this there isnt even a tray in the bottom

-cage quakers now live in
-hubby earned the trust of the younger quaker
-other quaker hiding

we havent found homes yet for the fids but i want to get some weight on them first. when i find homes i will be very very picky. my sister is talking about taking in the finches and maybe the pair of lovies. i was out on this rescue mission and when we came home jack was gone. i wish i had been home with him but i think maybe his soul left us so we could help others that needed us like he did. my husband was joking and said we should name the quakers taco and burrito.

You have a very big heart, Mi.  The poor little things, the pics of the cages make me nauseous.  (I would love to go smack that woman around for mistreating these innocent creatures.)

They are in a good place and I know that you will place them in good homes.  Bless you.  hugu

 Kudos Mi!  Your hubby (as we know you already are) is really good with fids!  The fids themselves look in pretty good health?  Except that one little white finchie....do you have him/her?
Thanks for saving them!  Your friend too!

we have all the fids in the pictures. right now i am trying to find a nursing home or somebody with an aviary for the 5 male finches that are in good health. one male is missing some feathers as is the white female  and so we are keeping them for now to monitor them. they were all starving. there was no food in the cage for the lovies, the quakers had no food nor water. they are thin but not to the extent that jojo bean is. (my hubbys jenday we took in). i have been feeding the finches 2-4 times a day depending what they eat. i check often to see if they all have food. gosh my own fids have it easy compared to what these ones had. i felt guilty if i over slept and fed them an hour late but gosh at least they have food and clean water and clean cages. nobody had toys either. only the lovies had a perch. i was actually afraid to post this in fear of being bashed.

Nice job you did on taking in what you could and finding homes!

Mi, don't be afraid to post about thing like this. If anyone would have bashed you for showing those pics I would have stepped in   :bruce: . They only way I think anyone on here would have said anything would have been if you said "these are my birds".................then I think we would have simply tried to educate you on proper bird care. Bashing isn't the way for the people on here to behave - true BP members are above that and anyone else can deal with me.

.........................so, you going back for more birds?

Those finchie doodles do look happier in their "after" pics!  Poor little things.  Why people get pets or birds and don't at least give them the basics is beyond me.
