I had a tough time trying to think of a cool name for this thread .."julian gets his wings" and "Julian's maiden voyage" were two I considered.

I took him out in the harness yesterday, the air wasn't so hot and it was quiet out as far as noise and wind.. getting it on was tricky, the slide adjuster is snug so it doesn't tighten in flight and strangle the bird-but it also makes it hard to tighten when it is being put on and off. he wasn't too happy about that part, but once it was on he was calm and relaxed and enjoyed his time outside :)

LOL, I am no where near Cocoa! (I WISH!) I am more like small-town pee-wee little league and she is the National League world series!!  I have to say, she was my inspiration and proof to me that the harness thing is not just a gimmick or a silly thing, it is a real and amazing thing for the birds, I HAD to try.  (now if we could just talk them into putting the harness on without a tantrum??) I have been trying to figure out the harness Mar gave me, I want to alternate them so he is used to both should one get nibbled or damaged.. he was so good, you cant see the crazy feathers it mussed in the back, that must have driven him nuts...he kept trying to perch on the big buckle instead of my hand, but I think we will get the hang of things... I was able to cuddle him after the trip outside and that was special.  :loveuk:

you are an inspiration to me. i'm gonna dig marley's harness out and try again. i just assumed when he fussed while i was putting it on he wouldnt adjust. (he flopped on the sofa like he was having a seizure.  :dmblaf: )

Just getting the harness on alone is a HUGE accomplishment!

please watch the DVD first, there are important training techniquies I did from it that I would have never thought about that made this work (conditioning training). if you don't have the DVD, you can watch the training online at parrot university. theparrotuniversity.com  it is hard to adjust the belt strap around the tummy, so he has to be able to tolerate you fussing with him.  :peace:

oh I seriously buttered him up with sunflower seeds and stayed as Zen cool as i could!! it was really hard to do when he had on e leg in front and one behind as I put it on! LOL! he looked like a fly in a spider's web.  thanks guys!

LOL YES! he was swinging on the leash that was about a foot dangling from my hand, there were straps and harness everywhere, if it wasn't a situation that had to be addressed NOW I would have laughed so hard i would have collapsed! and i would have taken pictures!  :laugh:  the best part is, when I would get a hold of him i would say , "it's ok, calm down" and he would! I e-mailed the inventor today at parrot university, and got a very nice response. He said the slider is that tight because if it was any looser than it would squeeze up on the bird and suffocate him.  I already knew that, but it was nice that he didn't act like a jerk or a know-it-all.  he said he has used the harness on a little birds like mine (they do macaws, LOL) and he empathizes that is it difficult to tighten the strap with a little body and big fingers.  He said that is the smallest they can make, although they have had requests for budgie and lovebird harnesses.  he said just give it more time so he will be more used to being fidgeted with. and take my time so he wouldn't hate it.  HE really cares about the phycological well-being of these birds, and I got that from the DVD that came with the harness, with people, you can just tell. (or at least i can).

 :headhammer: I practiced with my son's stuffed parrot first (who is around the same size) and it was so much easier without a working beak and feathers to pull LOL!
