Title: A Sad Story, An Important Lesson!
Post by: Sapphire on June 25, 2015, 07:51:55 am
This very sad story shows just how important it is to have your bird in a carrier whilst traveling, and not on a perch in the car!!

Thank you for this timely reminder!

Our pets, feathered and furred, should be in a carrier and that carrier should be belted in. If you can not belt the carrier it should be on the floor behind the passenger seat. If this isn't possible then use tie-downs and ratchet the carrier/cage  in place in the back of you vehicle. Seat belts for dogs are available in most pet stores or sold on pet sites.

Yes, it was a very sad story.

It is law here in the UK that any pet has to be in a carrier and belted. Before this law came in, there were so many tragic accidents! For instance, dogs were jumping from the back to the front, causing driver to swerve and birds were freaked out by being in a car on a perch causing them to fly about, again distracting the drivers view, plus hurting themselves on the windows in the process

Oh that hurt just to read it and I don't even know Mark or Lola.

Such a sweet life she was able to live before this happened. I do hope Mark will one day find another sweet bird that needs a reason to live and move on from it's past.

It is so dangerous to travel anymore for anyone, human or pet what with all the folks texting and talking on their cell phones while attempting to drive at the same time.  :pullhair:

Brings to mind a traumatic event from my past involving a Honda hatchback, an Interstate Highway, and 30 pounds of angry peacock :eek2:
